What they said about the Will’s chain of narration

What have they said about the chain of narration for the Will?

After giving the Will narration and other narrations, Shaykh Tusi has explained that it has been narrated by Al-Khaassah (lovers of Ahlulbayt), as well as it being Mutawaatir (oft-narrated, such that the narrators cannot be accused of lying).

“…this is one aspect of the narrations that we have narrated (for you). If we start with what has been narrated by Al-Khaassah (Shias / lovers of Ahlulbayt) in this regard, the book would become very long. Hence, we have only narrated what will validate what we said that that the two different groups (Sunnis / Shias) have narrated it. Whoever wishes to research that more then they should read the books written about that, for they will find much material along the lines of what we have said here.”

Then he says, “As for that which indicates its authenticity, then the Imami Shias have narrated it one after the other, and the method to affirm that can be found in the Imami (Shia) books giving narrations from Amir-ul-Mumineen (Commander of the Believers) and the method is one. The Muhaddith MIrza Nuri has indicated that the Will has a reliable chain, since he said: Shaykh Tusi has narrated with a ‘reliable chain’ from Imam As-Sadiq (as) a narration that contains some wishes of Allah’s Messenger (pbuhahf) to Amir-ul-Mumineen on the night he passed away…’

~

Ali bin Sinaan Al-Musali Al-Adl

Bio

He has been called ‘Al-‘Adl’ (The just).

Shaheed Thani said: Words denoting justice: ‘Just, reliable, proof, authentic with regards hadith’, these refer to someone who is known for being just, steadfast, reliability and piety’.

They said whilst validating

There is a narration from him that shows his soundness, perfection…and his other important narration in that regard (Ash-shahroodi)

The following mentioned him

Ash-shahroodi in his ‘Ilm-ur-rijaal’ Mustadrak books

Al-Ardabeeli in Jami’ur-Ruwaat

Al-Kajuri in Al-Khasais Al-Fatamiyyah and he has authenticated a narration in which Al-Musali features

Al-Burujardi in Tara’if-ul-Maqaal

The outcome

Shiite, complete, sound whose narration can be used to make an argument, in fact he is reliable as per Al-Kajuri and relied upon, according to the writings of Al-Hilli for no one ever having found a fault with him at all.

~

Ali bin Al-Hussain (Ibn Babawayh Al-Qummi), Abu-l-Hasan

Who is he?

Mirza-nuri says in Khatimat-ul-Mustadrak: ‘What we see in the books of ahadith and rijaal (biographies), is the explanation from the father of As-Sadooq, thus: Ali ibn Al-Hussain, or Ali bin Babawayh”

Bio

Contemporary of Imam Askari (as) until the embassy of As-Samarri (the correspondent) and Imam Mahdi (as) did dua for him to have children and he gave him glad tidings of two good sons.

They said whilst validating him

Shaykh of the Qummis (people from Qum) in his time and he was the first of them and their Faqih (scholar) and their reliable one. He wrote some books…’ (Najashi)

Reliable, he wrote some books (Tusi)

Outcome

Reliable, just, highly respected, very famous (in Arabic ‘like fire on a flag’), was highly regarded by Imam Askari and Imam Mahdi (on them be peace). He needs no further introduction.

~

Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Al-Khaleel, Abu Abdillah

They said whilst validating him

‘…in this narration (which he narrated) there is a text on the twelve Imams (pbut) and their names, as well as their virtues, which indicates his soundness and his completeness’ Ash-Shahroodi

The outcome

Shiite, complete, sound – people use his narration to build arguments, in fact he is reliable according to Al-Kajuri, he is relied upon according to the Al-Hilli’s standards and he is one of the early esteemed scholars, since there is nothing narrated against him.

The following have mentioned him

Ash-shahroodi mentioned him in the Rijaal book mustadrak

Al-Kujoori mentioned him in Al-Khasais Al-Fatimiyyah and he has declared as authentic a narration in which Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Al-Khalil is one of the narrators

Other proofs

Shaykh Tusi has declared that the narration of the Will has been narrated by the Khassah (shia narrators), so he is a shite and truthful, for the believer is truthful even if someone establishes them as being not truthful

Mirzanuri mentioned that the chain of narration for the Will is ‘reliable’.

~

Ja’far bin Ahmed bin Ali bin Bayan bin Zayd bin Sayaabah Al-Misri

Bio

Shiite, reliable, because he was slandered by the Sunnis for being a rafidi (someone who rejects false governments) and who narrated from the Ahlulbayt (pbuh), and this is an indication of his splendour and extreme affinity with them (peace be upon them)

They said whilst validating him

Ash-Shahroodi: ‘Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Al-Khalil has narrated a honourable narration in the texts from the Twelve Imams (pbut), their names and their virtues’

Al-Ameen: ‘Their rejecting him because of his narrations such as the hadith which says ‘The one who loves you loves me…’ There is nothing stranger than rejecting ahadith with conjecture or presumption.

All of the following mentioned him

Ash-Shahroodi in Mustadrakaat Ilm-ur-Rijaal

Syed Muhsin Al-Amin in A’yaan Ash-Shiah

The outcome

Shiite, established, backbone, sound – whose narrations are used to build arguments, relied upon according to the standards of Al-Hilli and some of the earlier scholars, because of the absence of anything negative about him. In fact, he is reliable as per some scholars, since Sunnis try to weaken his narrations once they know he is a Shiite

~

Al-Hussain bin Ali Abu Abdillah Al-Misri

Bio

The chain of Will narration as in Al-Ghaybah by Tusi mentions he is the brother of Ja’far Al-Misri’s father, hence, he is Al-Hussain and not Al-Hasan (which is a spelling mistake). The proof is the father, the title and the source of origin (Al-Misri…from Egypt) are the same, similarly the biographical standpoint. Also, his name ‘Al-Hussain’ is present in the chain of narration (for the same Will narration) as mentioned in Bihar-ul-Anwar.

The following have mentioned him

Ash-Shahroodi in Mustadrakaat Ilm-ur-Rijaal

Najashi in his Rijaal book

Khu’i in Mu’jam Rijaal-ul-Hadith

They said whilst validating him

He is a reliable individual, lived in Egypt…he wrote books, of which is Kitab-ul-Imamah (Najashi)

He is a reliable individual, as per Najashi, and there is no difference about him. He wrote Kitab-ul-Imamah (Ash-Shahroodi)

‘The reliable shaykh, who is active – Abu Abdillah Al-Husain bin Ali Al-Misri” (Hashim Al-Bahrani)

The outcome

Shiite, reliable, active, relied upon, wrote books and reliable works

~

Ali bin Bayan bin Zayd bin Sayabah

Bio

Father of Al-Hussain bin Ali Al-Misri ‘the reliable one’

He narrated from Imam Ja’far As-Sadiq (as) and he was declared as reliable because no one found fault in him. In fact he is reliable as per the standards of Al-Hurr Al-Amali and Ash-Shahroodi.

Shaykh Tusi has affirmed that the narrators of the Will narration are shiites and some shia scholars have said that the default position is shiites should be trusted, except someone who has been declared as weak within the texts.

He is from the narrators of Imam As-Sadiq (as) and those whom the big scholars have preferred and whose reliability has been affirmed, other than someone regarding whom a flaw / weakness has been discovered.

His validation

He is regarded as sound and complete, the same way that An-Namazi has mentioned regarding the narrators of the will in general.

The outcome

Shiite, sound, as per An-Namazi in Tarjumat-ul-Khalil and Tarjumat-ul-Musili. He is relied upon, as per the standards of Al-Hilli and some early scholars, since, nothing negative has been narrated regarding him. In fact he is reliable according to Al-Hur Al-Amili and An-Namazi since he is from the companions of Imam As-Sadiq (as).
