This has been addressed by Syed Ahmed Al Hasan (pbuh) in The Allegories vol 4 q 163, as follows:
“So the guardianship of Mary by Zecharius’ was because of her rank (And Zecharius became guardian for Mary) and the most important part of her rank was that she was mother for Jesus (pbuh) one of the mightiest prophets, corrector of the divine religion.
Just as John, as the answer for Zecharius’ (pbuh) prayer, the most important thing in it, was that the prayer of Zecharius itself was answered, which was that he (John) became the helper for Jesus (pbuh). (So the angels called him whilst he was stood praying in the mehrab (prayer niche), that ‘God gives you glad tidings of John, who affirms a word from God and a leader and abstainer from desires and a prophet from the pious).
The one ‘who affirms’ is John (pbuh) and the word of God and the leader that abstains from desires is Jesus (pbuh), so he a leader from the highest prophets, and a king from the children of Israel – an abstainer does not go near women or the worldly life (dunya).”

“فكفالة زكريا لمريم لشأنها، فإن الله كفله شأنها (وكفلها زكريا) وأهم ما في شأنها هو أنها أم ليعسى ع نبي من أولى العزم مصلح للديانة الإلهية.
كما أنّ يحيى الذي هو إجابة دعاء زكريا (ع) كان أهم ما فيه هو إجابة دعاء زكريا، وذلك أنه أصبح الناصر لعيسى (ع)، ﴿فَنَادَتْهُ الْمَلائِكَةُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي فِي الْمِحْرَابِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكَ بِيَحْيَى مُصَدِّقاً بِكَلِمَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَسَيِّداً وَحَصُوراً وَنَبِيّاً مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ﴾ ([278])، والمصدق هو يحيى (ع)، وكلمة الله والسيد الحصور هو عيسى (ع)، فهو سيد من أولي العزم، ومَلِك بني إسرائيل، وحصور لا يأتي النساء ولا الدنيا.”
